Today I was called by the newly appointed President of the Rotary of Cebu - Lahug Division. I wasn't aware yet that she was newly appointed. Initially she explained to me that our friends at the Rotary International had been interested in recruiting us into the Rotary Club of Cebu - Lahug Division. Then she told me about all the wonderful possibilities that the group had to offer and the wonderful things we can contribute if we were members. I had nodded a "yes" on the phone. I agreed to everything she said, until she said that the Rotary wanted to Appoint me as the new Secretary of the Rotary of Lahug. I was taken a back. I had dreamed for a long time to be part of the Rotary Club, but to be appointed as the new secretary was beyond my expectation. It was both wonderful new and scary. I was afraid of the opportunities responsibilities. Secretary isn't an easy job. After I put down the phone and was given time to think, I was beside my self with both happiness and fear. My emotions were so mixed. I know I've been in professional management for quite some time and have been taking a lot of leadership duties in the past in all of my employments, but this was a very big responsibility, it's almost like being part of a political party so to speak. I'll have to dine and associate with the most influential people here in Lahug Area and Cebu in General. It was exciting and the same time heart-rendering. I thought it through and decided that this was an opportunity I could not pass. It was a very good opportunity for me to be trained even more in the field os socio-anthropological affairs. This will be another international society I'll be joining.
I wonder what will happen.
Later this morning will be the training for the new members and officers of the rotary. It's a two day affair and will last for 8 - 10 hours a day. Then we will be put into office by June.
The many opportunities in life are limitless and by the good grace of the Lord we find ourselves in the midst of grace. May the Lord be happy as I take up this new challenge in life. May my actions prove fruitful in the brotherhood of "service above all". May I be an instrument to create works that will inspire people to make more deeds of service to his fellow man! To God be the Glory!
